In conjunction with DIFC Art Nights, The Farjam Foundation invites viewers to experience a breathtaking collection of portraits featuring Hollywood icon, Elizabeth Taylor.
The artworks, captured by renowned photographer, Firooz Zahedi, provide a unique and intimate insight into the late screen star’s first and only visit to Iran in 1976. This collection has previously only been displayed in a select few places, including The Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
As a close friend of Taylor, Zahedi worked alongside the actress for over three decades and enjoyed an unprecedented one-to-one collaboration with the exceptionally glamorous movie star. Featuring thirty-seven stunning photographs, this series documents Taylor’s remarkable journey through Zahedi’s homeland, and reveals her keen interest in the Islamic traditions and culture, including portraits of the actress posing in both traditional costumes and elegant chadors.
Raised in England, Zahedi travelled to the US in 1969 to study at Georgetown University. He went on to serve as an attaché in Washington, but always harboured the ambition of becoming a professional photographer; a dream that was nurtured by Taylor from the moment they met.
Having started his photography career with Andy Warhol in New York in the 1970s, Zahedi emerged to become one of the most established photographers in Hollywood. He has captured images of some of the most famous American movie stars, and is the man behind many iconic motion picture posters. The Elizabeth collection is unique in its portrayal of a quintessential movie star through the lens of a trusted friend, providing a rare glimpse into Taylor’s natural, casual persona.
