The Farjam Foundation thanks The Art Newspaper and art journalist Cyrus Naji for the comprehensive review of The Farjam Collection of Islamic and Middle Eastern Art (pub. Yale University Press, 2024), launched late last year at the British Museum and The Louvre Abu Dhabi. The Editors, Drs Sheila Canby, Venetia Porter, Sarah Rogers and Nada Shabout, as well as the extensive team of writers, are also to be thanked for their contributions which will provide future generations of scholars with an understanding of the evolution of art, not just across borders in the Middle East and beyond, but also from antiquity to the present. Dr Farjam, founder of the Collection, has spent over 50 years assembling art “focussed on a unifying principle: the interconnections between works that transcend cultural, temporal, and geographical breaks. He has built up a collection that tells the story of the artistic and aesthetic achievements of a civilisation, its orbit and shadow” (The Art Newspaper, no. 376, March 2025).
