Memories of Destruction: Selected Works by Aydin Aghdashloo from The Farjam Collection

October 2013 – December 2013

On October 2, 2013, The Farjam Foundation presents Memories of Destruction: Selected Works by Aydin Aghdashloo from The Farjam Collection. Distinguished as “Maestro” in Iran, Aydin Aghdashloo’s multifaceted career has been a driving force behind the mid 20th century artistic and cultural renaissance within Iran. With his internationally acclaimed expertise, Aydin is a leading art critic and art historian in Islamic art. Aghdashloo’s ironic subversions of revered Western art creates a commentary on the progression of time and the evolution and destruction of a once enlightened era.

Aghdashloo’s creative approach combines contemporary popular tropes alongside ancient Persian art forms. He is a published author and illustrator, university faculty member, graphic designer, renowned critic and art consultant. Memories of Destruction is Aghdashloo’s most famous series. The series covers universal themes, from magnificent objects and excellent paintings, to young and proud faces that believe glorious times will continue for eternity, and those wrinkled, crumpled, broken and ruined visages that are signs of our unavoidable future.
