September 2011 – January 2012
For the first time in the UAE, The Farjam Foundation, will display a selection of Safavid carpets from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries to shed a light on the most illustrious and refined period in the history of carpet weaving.
Following the Eid celebration, this exhibition celebrates artistry from one of the most significant ruling dynasties of Iran, which created a platform for delicate courtly arts such as the art of the book, metalwork, textiles and carpet weaving. This dynasty ruled for over two hundred years and its cultivation of the arts is a key point in the history of Islamic Art.
There are approximately two thousand Safavid era carpets throughout the world, with very few remaining in the Middle East, making the exhibition a unique opportunity to view a large collection of these rare pieces in one space.
